Mel Bles Alter Egos, 2022
Wombat Print Box | Edition of 50
In Alter-Ego’s by Mel Bles, the individual identity and character of the sitter is allowed to thrive in the realms of both fact and fiction. Each documentation becomes a reflection on the beauty and dignity of the simple pairing of a face and a name.
“It’s such an important and exciting time regarding the individual. We are so much freer to change and project different moments and truths about ourselves. Truths that would have been hidden before can now be experienced and celebrated. But of course many people still come up against huge barriers and discrimination for going on those journeys. Photography can both distort and fantasise, but can also show us a moment of truth. Here, the viewer doesn’t know which is which, who is who, but they are all experienced with the same care, curiosity and dignity.”
