Laura Jane Coulson

Sweeteens

Self-Published

Sweeteens captures a rare moment of lightness and release in London as the first lockdown began to ease. Shot by Laura Jane Coulson in May 2020, the book documents young people gathering again in the city’s parks, meeting friends, lying in the grass, riding bikes and enjoying the sudden return of shared public life. Made during a brief, sun-soaked window of hope, the work feels both spontaneous and deeply specific: a timestamp of youth, freedom and connection after months of uncertainty and isolation.

Photographed in Coulson’s dreamy, colour-rich style, the images celebrate the simple joy of being outside together. London’s green spaces become places of escape, tenderness and renewed energy, filled with teenagers and friends whose openness gives the book its warmth. At once intimate and collective, Sweeteens is a love letter to young people, to the city, and to the fragile optimism of a moment when being together felt newly precious. Designed by Arpa Studio, the book is stocked exclusively at Claire de Rouen.
